When I smell cinnamon, I’m transported to my mother’s kitchen during Christmas time, as she diligently rolls out dough, spreads butter, and adds cinnamon sugar before rolling it all up. Making cinnamon rolls was reserved for Christmas and cinnamon rolls were reserved for our family and friends, and the fire station. When I smell cinnamon, I think of the complex place the holidays hold in my heart. Scents have the ability to transport us, to tell stories of our past and future.
